Friday, July 29, 2005 to Gibson, PennsylvaniaAbout 9 am, we left Long Island for the Hillside campground near Gibson, Pennsylvania where were spending the weekend with about 20 other members and friends of the Long Island Ravens MC. Richard was driving the truck with many supplies. We met Mike at exit 63 on the Long Island Expressway, and Chaz at exit 32. The trip was relatively uneventful, except for a minor (but not too smart) confrontation John had with a tractor-trailer truck at the Ramapo service area on the New York State Thruway, and the confusion John created among the others in the caravan as a result. The events of the weekend are not particularly relevant to this log, but we had a good time. |

Sunday, July 31, 2005 Gibson, PA Middlesex, PennsylvaniaAbout 12 noon, Mike and I left Hillside for the journey west, taking I-81 and I-80 across Pennsylvania. The day was great -- even though hot in the mid-90's most of the way with just a light shower as we passed over the mountains of central Pennsylvania and the highest point on Interstate 80 east of the Mississippi. We settled nicely into our saddles, and John took the lead as was to become the pattern for much of the trip. Even though there were only the two of us, we used the AMCC motorcycle riding standards throughout the trip. About 6 p.m., we stopped for the night in West Middlesex, PA, near Sharon, PA and the Ohio border. I realized, after talking with Richard in the evening, that my blood pressure medications were left at home, and Richard arranged to mail them to our motel in Springfield, MO. I didn't want to go a full two weeks without them, especially with the hot weather we were expecting out West. |
