In the myth, Prometheus was the Titan god who created humans out of clay, and assisted humankind by showing them how to use fire, work metal, and provide other tools of civilization· Zeus, ruler of the Olympian gods who defeated the Titans, ordered Prometheus to desist this work· When Prometheus refused, Zeus chained him to a mountain side, where an eagle tortured him by eating at his liver each day· Of course, Prometheus being a god, regenerated every night. Hercules, the son of Zeus by the mortal Alcmene, eventually rescues Prometheus·
In de Rome's version, De Rome's Prometheus provides a setting for a gay SM scene, and thereby giving us pleasure· (Ah, perhaps that was de Rome's Prometheus's raison d' être?) By the standards of modern SM porn, Prometheus's torture by the Furies is pretty vanilla· The men and their body parts are pleasing to the eye, though·
Watch for the paralells in de Rome's tale to those in the the myth· The final scene, where Hercules carries Prometheus off, is an image oft repeated in classical art.
