This is not a feel good film, and A Year Without Love makes no overt pleas for pity or anger· Tthe film (said to be based on poet Pablo Prez’s diary of the same title, which was published in 1996), documents the last year of his life· It takes place in that period of the AIDS epidemic when the disease prognosis transitioned from a near certain death sentence to a more treatable chronic but not fatal condition. Many HIV/AIDS films are political and activists focused· A Year Without Love is one person's, a poet's, very personal view· One of the better films on HIV/AIDS I've seen this year.
