Colin McCormack thinks he has it all - a great job, a steady stream of hot younger guys, and a best friend whose devotion he takes for granted. But when a charming and mercurial intern sweeps him off his feet, Colin sees a chance for something more: A family of his own. What he discovers instead is a shattering secret that may cost Colin everything -- and everyone -- he holds dear. By turns funny, heartbreaking and hopeful, DADDY explores the universal need for love and connection, and the evolving understanding of "family" in today's rapidly changing world. Following a buzz-heavy world premiere in New York and an extended run in LA, the critical smash play by actor Dan Via is now coming to the big screen, directed by Gerald McCullouch.

A routine trick at a man's apartment propels a cynical hustler into a series of strange and life-changing encounters in this stunningly photographed drama from San Francisco-based Joseph Graham. Tall and lanky with a mop of unruly dark hair, the young man makes for an attractive prostitute -- handsome in body, amiable in personality and efficient in sex. He's just out to make a buck, one guy at a time. But this coldly efficient rent boy begins to look at himself in a different way one stormy night when he finds himself lost in a maze-like apartment building. The evening begins with a tryst with a beefy but timid man unused to gay sex. Their "session" becomes surprisingly tender for both. But time is money, and he's off -- that is, he'd be off if he could find the exit. His unexpected odyssey leads him to a series of encounters: there is one with a "straight" guy with issues; a cocaine-fueled queen who thinks he knows him; an older man, hidden away in a leaky attic apartment who assists him on his journey; and a lonely young man who thinks he's finally found a connection with someone. Sex is the commonality, but out of that commodity comes raw, unguarded emotions for all, even for the hustler. Sad, funny, sexy and touching, Strapped is an unforgettable look into one young man's moving journey to understanding' [TLA] I'm not certain why the film is titled Strapped· I could be that "strapped" is used in the sense of needing money· It it also could be that it is used in the sense of being "confined"· The hustler needs money; and he settles on a profession he likes and does well — satisfying the various needs of his diverse clients· He is also confined, being lost in the building's maze· He is on a road trip, each stop enhancing disovery·
All films must end· And by the time we get near there you may have an inkling of of it· But no matter, this film is not about the end, but about the journey.

The New Black is a documentary that tells the story of how the African-American community is grappling with the gay rights issue in light of the recent gay marriage movement and the fight over civil rights. The film documents activists, families and clergy on both sides of the campaign to legalize gay marriage and examines homophobia in the black community's institutional pillar-the black church and reveals the Christian right wing's strategy of exploiting this phenomenon in order to pursue an anti-gay political agenda. The New Black takes viewers into the pews and onto the streets and provides a seat at the kitchen table as it tells the story of the historic fight to win marriage equality in Maryland and charts the evolution of this divisive issue within the black community.

queer heritaqe
In the 1980s and 1990s a wave of murders bloodied the idyllic coastline of Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The victims: young homosexual men. Disturbing gang assaults were being carried out on coastal cliffs around Sydney, and mysterious deaths officially recorded as ‘suicide’, ‘disappearance’ and ‘misadventure’. Individual stories are woven together by emotional first person interviews and detailed re-enactments, piecing together the facts of these unsolved cases, decades later. Deep Water is a conventional interview documentary exploring a large number of murders and assaults on gaymen in and around Sydney, Australia in the 1970s and 80s. It convincingly posits the initial investigations were bungled and covered up by the police. A strong argument is made for police officer involvements in the murders and assaults. While homosexual relationships had by that time been decriminalized, queer bashing was still widely practiced by youthful gangs and some elements of the police. Deep Water is an important queer heritage film.

queer heritage
A chronicle of gay culture in New York during the post-Stonewall, pre-AIDs era. Thirteen men and one woman look back at gay life and sex in Manhattan and Fire Island - from Stonewall (June, 1969) to the first reporting on AIDS (June, 1981). They describe the rapid move from repression to celebration, from the removal of shame to joy, the on-going search for "someone," the freedom before AIDS, the friendships, and brotherhood.
The style of Gay Sex in the 70s is of interviews with gaymen of the era-most of whom were prominent in the New York City gay community centered in Greenwich Village· Also included in the "NYC" venue was the two adjacent Fire Island villages of Cherry Grove and Fire Island Pines located about 50 miles from Manhatten off the south side of Long Island-NYC vacation havens for the NYC queer community·

"Joseph F Lovett's 2005 documentary declines to apologise for the promiscuous gay culture of pre-Aids New York, suggesting instead that what both the gay and straight worlds of the 21st century now find so fascinating about it is how pure sex could be so freely available.· It's a period that has been hated and demonised for precipitating catastrophe, and for being a facile swirl of pleasure that was selfish and dangerous· Lovett takes a longer view· New York in the 1970s seems like an arena of nonstop gratification, but one that can only be understood in the context of the repression and fear that had gone before· [For many of today's gaymen] it seems as distant as the 1890s." Story of the life of Quentin Crisp, an Englishman who was brave enough to live his life according to his own style even in the hostile days of WW2. "The Naked Civil Servant is camp and unabashedly so – but it has far more going on beneath the surface, and helped usher in more nuanced portrayals of LGBT people and culture in the years to come. It may be dated, but time hasn’t made it feel embarrassing in retrospect. It is still one of the most pivotal works in the LGBT pop culture canon that helped further mainstream awareness and acceptance. Quite an impressive feat considering Crisp’s own personal views on the gay community!" Gay Essential (~2015)
When this film was released in 1975 , I was transitioning from a mostly closeted gayman to a mostly queer gayman· I am not sure how I would have reacted if I had seen it in '75· Crisp was not a role model I would have likely embraced· Now I have a very different perspective· He was a man who was compelled to live an authenic life· He had no choice. While he was not a crusader in our queer revolution, he was queer, he knew who he was, he knew he could not be else·

queer heritage
Biographical drama based on the last 20 years of Quentin Crisp's life. The literary figure and gay iconoclast emigrated to New York in 1981 and lived there until his death. The film observes Crisp in both his public and private lives, from his seemingly cavalier response to the outbreak of AIDS to his tender relationship with his friend Patrick Angus and his own response to growing old. An Englishman in New York is a well done sequel to Jack Gold's The Naked Civil Servant, also with John Hurt cast in Crisp's role· In addition to the story of Crisp in his elder years we see snap shots of gay life in New York City during the early years of the A.I.D.S. epidemic· This is an important queer heritage film.

A young adult learns that some boys in the hood are simply just goods to wealthy men in the area. It's a tale that truly questions how much you value your self-worth. Last Sunday evening I was surfing Amazon/Prime looking for something to watch that was relatively short and well rated · And I came across District· So it wasn't the two sentence plot that led me to it , but the length· It took a while for the WASP-boy in me to get into it, but when I did, I found it immersive· It turned out to be perhaps the best film I've see so far in 2018·
I was surprised to find that District has been mostly ignored by the film critic establishment· Even queer focused reviewers have so far largely ignored it· Perhaps "a place where plenty of shit goes down like gangbangin, drug dealin, killin, a place where you wouldnt want to be" [UrbanDictionary] is not a place where most of the film making elite (and not so elite), straight or queer, are comfortable.
