Shakespeare's comedy about two couples in love with the wrong partners, and how they are finally brought together rightly, thanks in part to the bungling work of Puck. It is completely in the language of the Bard, with Pfeiffer as the Fairy Queen and Kline as the one turned into her evening's lover with donkey ears.

Notes
This video is one of two ballet versions of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream in my collection· This version, cheoragraphed by George Balanchine, is 112 minutes long and in two acts· The other (The Dream), choreographed by Frederick Ashton, is shorter, 55 minutes· While I prefer the Aston version, both are great performances· I make some comparisons in my notes on the Ashton version (see).

Puck's Monologue:
Instead of Shakespeare final monologue spoken by Puck, in Balanchine's ballet we see Puck sweeping away the events of the previous night and then rising into the morning ether.
