Notes
While watching this film, I had the feeling I was wandering through a Salvador Dali painting· As we plodded along, the journey gets more surreal, never really becoming clear, never explained· At the same time, the journey is wondrous·
The film is, of course, an allegory· One critic describes it as an "existential journey"· I asked Richard (who is much more a student of philosophy than I am), what is an "existential journey"? The second the question was out of my mouth I knew I had made a mistake· If interested, you might ask the question of Professor Google·
The spirit of the Portuguese Saint Anthony of Padua pervades the film· St Anthony is venerated as the Patron Saint for the lost - lost people, things and spiritual goods·
