I don't remember my life in the 70s and 80s being quite so boring as depicted in this film · Director Ron Peck imagines the era's gay clubs as being just cruisy and mostly dull · Yes, there was some of that · But for the most part they were exciting and trendy · Many (if not most) gay men (and women) were also involved in social, political, activists, or religious groups ·
I also find it hard to believe that the classroom scene would have happened here in the States · Teachers here would likely have faced being fired for such an open discussion about gay sexuality ·
To my mind, Taxi Zum Klo (Taxi to the Toilet) (see) is a much more interesting picture of closeted/cruisy gay life of the era.
