Frank Ripploh tries to keep his professional and personal life separate. During the day, he is a dedicated school teacher. At night and on the weekends, he is a gay man who is always on the prowl for anonymous sex often in public places. Things may change when he meets Bernd, a movie theater clerk. Bernd quickly moves into Frank's flat and the two talk of their future life together, Bernd dreaming of them living together on a farm. But Frank, despite loving Bernd, feels restless and continues his quest for anonymous gay sex.

Notes
For many gay men of a certain age, Taxi Zum Klo is likely to be a nostalgia trip viewed with affection -- The scenes depicted could have been found in almost any major US city at the time -- Taxi Zum Klo is also a very funny movie -- Real and explicit -- Self-deprecating -- A gay heritage film, a truely original landmark (although I suppose that "landmark" implies that it marks a path followed by other filmakers, a path that few self-styled PC gay-culture mavens have actually followed) -- A fun film, more appreciated now some 35 years later than it probably would have been if I had viewed it in 1981.
