While both a thriller/mystery & black comedy fan, SCHNEIDER VS BAX never quite makes it in either genre -- Why this fellow Mertens sets up hit-men Schneider and Bax to kill each other is never revealed (I don't think I dozed off), and then there's the many implausibilities -- For example. after sloshing around in a swamp sometimes up to their necks in slime they amazingly appear in the next scene as if they've just come from their taylor or dresser. This was a film of the month from Film Movement -- I've come to expect some decent films from them -- this wasn't one of them.
