It's hipster sexual politics filtered through the French New Wave in Xavier Dolan's Heartbeats. The story of two close friends who are involved in a lust-triangle. Francis (Dolan) and his best friend Maria (Munia Chokre) are both pixilated by the same guy — Nicholas (Niels Schneider)· All bets are off as they attempt to out-maneuver one another to win his affections. Or at least figure out what his sexual preferences are and who's got a shot.

Notes
It's now some seven years after this film was first released· How I managed to miss it is a mystery· I loved it! It is a witty, well told story that brought many smiles and chuckles as the competition for Nicholas' affections ebbs and flows· Nicholas is beautiful, a classic Greek Adonis· It's clear he knows he's pretty· And he enjoys playing the two friends, all the time keeping his sexuality ambiguous· Or is he just a naive country boy?
