A love story involving two gay men. One of them, Eli, starts telling his story to a woman (Doris Roberts) working in an HIV clinic. He and the other gay man Tom (Richard Ruccolo) are the best friends of a engaged couple. Eli of the man (Adam Goldberg) and Tom of the woman. They are fixed up by the straight couple and have sex but things don't go well. Tom has problems with alcohol and difficult and distant parents who he brings Eli to meet. They have sex but Tom's problems mean they can't connect. At one point Tom attempts to make up by bringing a Planet of the Apes figure to Eli as he collects such things. After a number of strained meetings, they make up after dancing at the straight couple's couple's wedding and decide to work things out
