In 1950s France, in an isolated mansion, a family is snowed in during the holiday season, and in these circumstances the man of the house is murdered. 8 women are here the murderer is must be one of them. The cheating wife Gaby (Catherine Deneuve), elder daughter Suzon (Virginie Ledoyen), youngest daughter Catherine (Ludivine Sagnier), bitter sister-in-law Augustine (Isabelle Huppert), deceptive mother-in-law Mamy (Danielle Darrieux), the maid Louise (Emmanuelle Béart), the nanny Pierette (Fanny Ardant), and shunned sister Madame Chanel (Firmine Richard). Each woman has a hidden secret, that is revealed. The movie initially starts with Suzon's return from school, and the discovery that Marcel has been knifed in the back. Next they discover that the phone lines are dead. Catherine plays detective and begins to question everyone's motivations. Madame Chanel appears, or has she been here all along? Augustine has a fit over her medicines, and then a nervous breakdown. Pierette discovers a clue, and is about to reveal it when a shot rings out. It was a warning shot but Pierette is now too scared to speak. Now that all the secrets are out, Catherine finally assembles the pieces of the mystery and one last twist is revealed.
