Damien lives with his mother Marianne, a doctor, while his father is on a tour of duty abroad. He is bullied by Thomas, whose mother is ill. The boys find themselves living together when Marianne invites Thomas to come and stay with them.

One might think that by now there have been so many coming of age films involving teenage boys that little new could be said and that this one would be tiresome. However, I found Being 17 enthralling· Performances by young Klein and Fila wew superb, with the latter actually making his movie acting debut. The chemistry literally sizzled between them even when they were so angry with each other·
- This film should not be confused with a similarly named gay themed film short Age 17.
