"The Sum of Us" is an Aussie story about a father and a son both searching for love and sharing an unconventional bond. Harry, the father, is the caring and open-minded "mate" that borders on annoyance. His son Jeff unsuccessfully searches for love, with the unwanted guidance of his father.

Notes
A "charming" fantasy (I really dislike using that word, but it seems to fit this film well)· I have lived three-quarters of a century, but I know of no father-son relationships that approaches that of Harry and his gay son Jeff· I found their relationship very off-putting· If I were to have had a dad like Harry, aargh! On the other hand, my dad was 180° from Harry - benign neglect - Not what I wished for that either·
There are other little annoyances· But in spite of these, The Sum of Us is not an unbearable little romp.
