Overall, I ended up being disappointed in what started out as a promising film by British Director James Bolton· While the Louisiana scenery looks pretty, if a bit ominous, well into the story the plot becomes muddled· The acting is wooden· Said to be based on a 1995 novel by Jim Grimsley, the movie plot apparently veers from the novel, especially near the end· Bolton calls Dream Boy a "Southern" film; filming in the South does not make it "Southern·" If there is a theme to the film, it escapes me· Why this film won the 2008 Iris Prize is a mystery.
