A serial killer brutally slays and dismembers several gay men in New York's S/M and leather districts. The young police officer Steve Burns is sent undercover onto the streets as decoy for the murderer. Working almost completely isolated from his department, he has to learn and practice the complex rules and signals of this little society.

Notes
Much has been said and written about this film originally released in 1980 and re-released as a DVD in the early 2000s -- It is amazing how much has changed from then until now (2016) -- Michael D. Klemm's 2007 CinemaQueer review almost perfectly reflects my views and are better put. See "Return of Cruising" at http://www.cinemaqueer.com/review%20pages/cruising.html, or in the Links section of this page. Also Vito Russo's 1981 history "The Celluloid Closet" .
