The Continental Baths, a favorite hangout of New York homosexuals, provides the background of this socially conscious comedy drama that tries to examine the relationships between gay and heterosexual people. The story centers around a macho, heterosexual piano player who gets a job at the notorious nightclub and must therefore reconsider his attitudes. His girl friend helps him too. In the end, he winds up becoming sure of his sexuality when he tries to sleep with a gay man.

Notes
I viewed this film for the first time some 40 years after it's release in the mid 70s· I was hoping to be surprised, after paying more for the dvd than I usually would for a film that received mostly unimpressive reviews (although Michael Klemm at Queer Cinema, a man whose reviews I respect, was generally positive)· I unfortunately found the film mediocre· The dialogue often seemed stilted, not real· I got bored with it all, and nearly fell asleep· On the other hand, if viewed from the perspective of queer cultural heritage, it is a film of some importance· While the film would have been cutting edge for the mid-70s, the fact that it has not worn all that well is an example of how much the world (especially Western culture) has changed in the last forty years.
