This film is very much of the middle phase of the AIDS plague, where treatments (such as AZT) were able to prolongue lives, but were rarely effective long term -- Jeffrey's dilemma was to be found among many gay men -- Unfortunately it was manifest in many gay men (as well as the general public) as a HIV/AIDS-phobia, not only in the sense of a fear of the disease, but in a hatred of gays with AIDS/HIV (PWAs) by gays themselves -- Jeffrey was originally written as a play, and its stage genesis comes through in the cinematic production --The movie has its high points, but never fully seems to quite make a convincing whole -- It is mostly well acted -- In spite of its weaknesses, it is a "must see".
